Default question about pencil vs. volt and vdroop

I was wondering if anyone could clear up my possible confusion about pencil vs. volt and tell me what is vdroop...
Well I believe that a volt mod is soldering points on a mobo/gfx card and a pencil mod and shading a resistor or something as an alternative. Am I right about this. I was also wondering if someone could tell me what these mods do and what is vdroop and what does a vdroop mod do and fix?
also, to overclock with these mods do you have to use a custom bios? Whats the difference between a reference card and regular?
Thanks..
p.s. sorry for sounding like a noob but i have no idea what this stuff is.

You are a bit confused I think

when it comes to volt mod, they mean GPU, you might need to solder AND use pencil depending on your board

vdroop mod is only done by pencil and it helps you acheive Bios Vcore = Idle Vcore = Load Vcore, hypothetically

There are certain transistors on your motherboard or GPU that help to regulte voltage. Buy soddering or rubbing one or more of these with a pencil, you are decreasing resitance and allowing a more free flow of juice. It voids your warranty and can kill your hardware. I did it with my graphics card... fantastic results. Never done it with a motherboard.

VDroop = the drop in Vcore when going from idle to load.
Vmod = any sort of modification that adjusts voltage such as the pencil vdroop mod or a Vgpu mod with variable resisters

you can also use VRs soldered each side of the resistor to decrease the resistance but the pencil mod is much easier to do and reverse, also see above for Vmod, there are Vmods for motherboards to allow a higher Vcore, Vdimm etc than is selectable in BIOS

you shade the resistors not the transistors but the rest of yourt statement is correct
