Default BSEL & Pencil Mods?

Short and simple: What exactly do those terms mean?

The BSEL mod connects a few pins on the CPU so the CPU runs at a higher default FSB.

A pencil mod reduces voltage drop on a mobo.

There's numerous threads about BSEL and Pencil Mods on this site.

Try searching.

So what exactly is a BSEL Mod?

The mod will increase your processors 'default speed', it is done by connecting the pins on the bottom of the processor. This 'tricks' the motherboard into thinking the processor has a higher FSB and therefore boots at a higher speed.

^ Had very little luck googling and I'm downloading SP1 for Vista, so I couldn't be bothered searching

What does BSEL stand for?

Also, I'm kinda confused about the Pencil mods; I understood that there are several different ones, one including reducing VDroop on motherboards, other being overvolting GPUs. Any others, and how exactly is it done? And why on earth is it called a "Pencil mod".

BSEL is the BSEL point on the CPU.

It's called a Pencil Mod because you use the graphite from the pencil to pencil over the specific area on the board to reduce vDroop or increase voltage.

You need to use a meter most of the time to message the certain amount you need to add on to either increase the voltage or to reduce the vDroop.

All you do is take a pencil and shade on the specific area a few times at a time.

I don't see how downloading something means you can't search.

I sent you to a link to help you out. It's in my first post above.

pencil modding is simply using a pencil (hence the name) and tracing over a resistor to lower the resistance of it and increase the voltage throughput. it can be used in some cases as you said for GPUs or other tweaks.

Ah, on videocards a pencil mod is done to increase the voltage for better overclocking. Just to add to the post above.

256Kb/s down; takes a minute to load up a page on OCN (while dowloading stuff, that is), fifty-fifty chances of the page loading up in the first place. Really makes browsing a PITA.

Thanks peeps

Now just out of curiosity, how do people figure out the correct pins to do different mods? Is there a way to find them out without actually getting the details from a CPU/chipset/mobo manufacturer, or is the info freely available?
