I'm currently working on a project rebuilding my home router and I'm doing a little modding to it. I need to get 7-7.5 volts out of the PSU. I know I could use the trick people use with their fans, positive lead to +12 and negative lead to +5, but I've heard it may or may not cause issues with your PSU, and I'm aiming for stability.

This could do it, depending on what your powering.
http://www.watercoolinguk.co.uk/cata...roducts_id=752 You can also get single resistors to power a fan at 7v although I believe they're balanced for fans.

If you are adept with a soldering iron you can simply use an adjustable LDO. Here, is an example using a Linear Tech device.
