I prefer to use lead based solder because it is MUCH easier to work with. As with any smoke, don't breath it. Have a small fan behind you but not on your iron. Oh and IMPORTANT:
Wash your hands, face, and hair after soldering.

If you're only doing a little solder work in a well ventilated room don't worry about it.

There is a disease that a bunch of solderers get where they shake from inhaling lead solder smoke. I met someone a while back when i was messing around with circuits who had it, he had to use helping hands to keep his hand steady.

First of all why did u buy a solder with such high lead content? Second of all use some tinning flux to help with the bad fumes and also the little fumes that come from soldering are mostly carbon and a very small amount, so don't worry about it just don't stick your nose in it and get high with it.

Actually guys I don't think the smoke is from the lead I believe it is from the flux inside the solder.

You will be fine as long as you do not inhale any fumes. And work in a well ventalated place.

When I was a kid, I didn't know better and I put a strip of my dads lead solder in my mouth. No I didn't swallow, I eventually spat it out, thank God. Just practice good ethics when working around solder and you'll be fine

Lead can be dangerous to handle. Problem generally come from working with warm/heated lead and lead vapors. Lead solider to handle at room temp won't do much to you. The vapors can do a lot of harm though. If you solider once every few months for a few cables, you shouldn't have to worry about it much, just have a fan take the vapors from your work area. I used to have my stuff by the window and a box fan exhausting.
If you are using lead soldier every day, you'll need to invest in filters, masks, gloves or etc. A few times a year isn't going to hurt you. Personally I love to use a lead mix, what I use now is 60/40 for cables and SN63 for tight pitch stuff.
