Hey guys, i know lead is very hazardous to the human body, But this solder i got is 63/37 (Tin/Lead) and i was wondering if it would be hazardous to breathe in the smoke that comes off.
thanks. -uber

Please do not breath the smoke/vapor from the soldering.
You don't necessarily need to use a mask, but use an angle of work that will not place your face directly over the soldering. Good ventilation is also a must. ![]() This may be insightful

Yes and no.
I guess it is if you do it quite a lot, but occasional use should be perfectly fine. Heck for all my projects I prefer it, it seems a little nicer to work with.

Well, it probably isn't the best thing to breath, but it "melts" at much lower temperatures so it makes it better. Personally I still use it, but if you're worried about it, might as well get the lead free solder.

the ammount of lead that you'd ingest from a little mild soldering isn't anywhere near "harmfull" levels... if you did it regularly, or inhaled it on purpose... that's another story..
Then again... why do it when it's easily avoidable... I wouldn't go throwing away the solder, but as syr said... mask, or good ventilation cures the problem.

yeah lead solder isnt necessarily bad and as lopg as you aren't working with it a ton your body naturally gets rid of lead.

I have always used lead based solder as I find it easier to work with. My workspace at home doesn't have the best ventilation and I have never had any health issues because of this.It might be worse than the alternative for you, but the small amount used shouldn't do any long term damage. Unless your fearing that kids or pets will get into you should be fine.

Everybody pretty much said it. Don't inhale it and the amount of exposure you will likely face is very unlikely to cause issue. That said here is a link very short includes the warning label from that type of solder and some OSHA info, link.
__________________wiki: The 63/37 ratio is notable in that it is a eutectic mixture, which means: 1.It has the lowest melting point (183 °C or 361.4 °F) of all the tin/lead alloys; and 2.The melting point is truly a point — not a range

As far as I know , breathing any kind of smoke is not good.
