Default iPod Touch (Gen 1, 32GB) Quick question..

I know the older 5th Gen Video iPod was able to accept a large range of voltages for charging it, and I had a quick question.. If I mod a USB port to run 12v instead of 5v.. Would it rapid charge an iPod Touch v1 without damaging it?

Or on the Touch does it require a different 30-pin connection setup to change voltages? (This is inspired from the newer Touch and iPhone not having the 12v charging hardware in them that used different sets of pins in the ADC)

I think this is a bad idea.

I am sure that there is a battery-management IC on the iPhone/Touch that is very carefully managing the coulomb count into and out of the battery. It is done in this way in order to keep the battery from exploding!

Even if the charging regulator would allow a much larger voltage, the charging circuit would continue to charge at a rate within the safety range of the battery--according to the design of the battery system.

No, I have not opened up an iPhone, nor have I seen a schematic. However, I do have some experience with battery-management. That experience is the basis for my response.

Stupid question, its perfectly safe... Upon inspecting a much less scratched iPod back plate.. I see that it says 5v-30vDC 1A for the input rating... So it cant hurt it... but it probably wont charge much faster
