Default Help Please! Modding Commando

I'd like to do this today:

The Vdroop I may just pencil, but I have the 100K on hand if I change my mind.

The Vcore is the important mod, but I haven't done a VR mod before.

After 2 radio shacks, 2 electronic supplies, 2 cities and 4 hours I can't find a nice 50K little blue box VR, but I did pick up this 50K variable resistor:

It's a bit beefier, but I hope it works. Lemme know if there's any reason it won't.

Here's my mobo:

Which lead on the resistor attaches to A? Which to B? What do I do with the 3rd lead? Trim it?

Don't worry, I won't try to solder through the nail polish .

It protects against condensation when using dry ice or liquid nitrogen.

Edit:

I think I figured out how to hook the thing up.

Also, it appears that the difference between the 50K VR I was able to find and the smaller one is the ability to multi-turn the knob and get finer control. I'll just do it with wide swings and see what happens.

Ooh. Forgot about this thread. Vcore mod ultimately worked on that board after switching to a more typical VR. But then I killed the mobo soldering in the vdroop mod. Resistor came off.....burned off the contact point....it was ugly and sad. As you can see, I like to jump right in learning new things.

Subsequently got a new Commando on ebay. Soldered in the vcore and vdroop mod and it turned out very well.

Here's a pic in another thread.

I'm still planning on getting 8Ghz on my celly 352 some day. I have some coollaboratory liquid TIM and when I get my custom designed (by me ) LN2 pot from Duniek that sucker is gonna get colder.

Or, someday I'll find a reasonable source of liquid helium.......
