Default Best AGP 8x Card

I'm looking to upgrade my nVidia Geforce4 MX 420 64MB DDR.

I'd like opinions on the following:

Best AGP 8x card disregarding cost

and:

Best AGP 4x or 8x card on a budget (cost-effectiveness)

I have an AGP 8x port so I can support any card out there, thanks

Best? NVidia 7800GS (If you can get hold of one), or ATi X850XTPE. If you're on a budget, keep an eye out for a 6600GT or ATi 9800XT, they're surprisingly good bang for buck.

Very expensive and not worth it.

A 6800 Would be a nice card as will the X1600PRO.

And you need to watch the personal attacks. The X1600XT is a perfectly good card, and the X1600 Pro is a good value. A X1600Pro will beat a 6800 XT, and probably beat a 6800NU.
