Needs more sources. Toms Hardware has been criticized a lot lately for odd graphics card benching results. I wonder if they really benched every single card in all those games, with the exact same system?

Personally, I don't see why anyone would want to upgrade to last-gen tech if they want to play anything new. Games will be optimized for the new stuff, so within a year that performance advantage will disappear, as it did with the FX series(DX8). Buying an FX5500 instead of a 6200 was foolish last year. Next year we'll look back and laugh at the people that bought x850's instead of 7600GT's, and then have to upgrade their cards.

DX10 -> DX9 is a big enough jump; don't fall a SM short as well!

Considering SLI.

And SM3.

And way higher OC headroom.

And easy as hell to volt mod if you wanted to.

And uses a lot less power.

Lot less noise.

Lot less heat.

I wonder why so many people "still" choose to go for the 7600GT.

So? Just because a card is faster doesnt mean its the better card. Take the 7900GT and the x1900xt. The 1900 is a FASTER card, but the price, heat, noise and alot of other things make it the lesser card in alot of peoples opinions.

Lol x850xts are so underated. Everyone talks about the 7600gt sm3 and bs when there are 2 games that actually use it. By the time games even start to fully use sm3, dx10 will be in effect for most gamers. Heck im pushing 7k on 3dmak05 w/ this card

Indeed the fact that the 7600gt has HDR doesn't mean that it is a viable option. That particular graphical feature is so intensive that you are forced to turn down a lot of other settings in order to get playable framerates on that games that support it that I feel it really isn't much of a coup for the 7600gt to have it. I would much rather play games at 1280x1024 with all settings on high and 4xAA with 16xAS than at 1024x768 with most settings on high and 2xAA with 4xAS and in some games enabling HDR makes that much of a performance difference.
