I'd go for the x850xt. When I got my GS for $220, the x850xt's were still going for 350ish. Otherwise, I would have went with ATI.

ATI's image quality is soo much better...... I remember when my sig rig was down, and I had to convert back to an older AGP 9600xt......slower performance, but crisper image quality with more vibrant colors.

In Oblivion, I turn HDR off (bloom) just to get higher frame rates. Anything under a 7800GT/7900GS doesn't have enough power to render HDR smoothly anyway.

How many games support true SM3 HDR? All I can name is Oblivion......oh, and that patch for Far Cry. The source engine seems to render HDR fantastically using SM2, so I wonder why other games don't code their software in a similar fasion.

I'm not quibbling... I'm just saying that people take the submitting of their scores too seriously as I see no point of why anyone would lie inless they are trying to break their cards record or something.

I have only ever had ATI cards but have heard people saying time and again that they have better image quality so I suppose it is probably true.

It is true, and it is noticeable. You dont even need a side by side comparison.
