Would I see a high increase in performance when switching from a 7800gs agp to a 7900gs/gt on pcie4x or even an ati 1950pro on pcie4x?

You would see an Increase due to just the crd really mate. However the change in Bandwidth will not be too noticeable due to the Small 4x Bandwidth on the PCI-E 4X...However there will be a performance increase.

Don't waste your money. It has been proven that a 4X PCI-E slot starts to bottleneck noticeably at anything around the performance of a 7600GT.
__________________Due to this bottleneck, I'd say they would be pretty even. So...keep your 7800GS. lol

I would get the PCI-E card as you are ready for future boards that only Incorperate PCI-E..Agp eventually will be gone.
Also the Bottlneck IMO wasnt all that noticeable as i hade a PCI-E 4X motherboard so i speak from experience.

I would go for the PCIe card. The difference in card performance would outweigh any bottlenecks.

Ok i can tell you about both of these cards, because i have had a 7800GS and now a 7900GT. I had my 7800GS overclocked to 500/1600 and it would do around 83,000 on aqua mark III and a little over 7,000 on 3dmark05. Now with my new 7900GT i score 91,000 in aqua mark III and over 9,000 in 3dmark05 and that is with a minimal overclock. You will notice a big improvement, your going from a card that has 16 pixle pipes to one that has 24. Plus i picked my 7900GT up for 235 and i had a 40 dollar mail in rebate.
__________________ .. so the better card was actually cheaper. I paid 279 for my 7800GS lastyear. So in short you will notice a nice improvement.
