Default 12.3k 3DMark06 with 265$ video card and cheap CPU

I just finished overclocking my 2900 Pro. I was able to overclock it to 875 core and 970 memory.

3DMark score is 11741. I think this is a great value. So if you are looking for a fast but inexpensive video card 2900 Pro is probably the best bet at the moment.

Edit: I practically got to 12k mark and that's in Vista 64 bit (which means that the score would be even higher in XP?). My best score so far is: 11975.
I can still push my CPU further, so I am hoping to actually pass over 12k mark tonight (and that's in Vista 64 bit).

Edit2: I am still in Vista 64, but I was able to climb to the 12310 mark. After I increased my PCIE frequency (to 115) I was able to get my CPU to go faster (very stable @3.7). The other thing is that I realized that I really should turn the fan on video card to 100% (I use RivaTuner for that as it works fairly well in Vista 64 bit). With fan going at 100% I can push video card frequency further (890 core/1020 mem). I also flashed my Pro to XT, but that probably did nothing (just changed stock speed which are irrelevant since I am OCing it anway). This is prettily much the top score (I think) in Vista 64 with my system.

That score is amazing for a system like yours! I had the impression that the 21xx series wouldn't top 10k.

No he didn't turn settings nor resolution down (and adjusting the driver settings to 'performance' is legit).
http://service.futuremark.com/compare?3dm06=3263682

The res is 1280x1024. To accuse him of such thing without any proof is quite rude, esp. since he gave a link (which I was able to 'convert' to a published link with the resolution details).

And comparing the HD2900PRO with the TWICE as expensive 8800GTX is nonsense also.

Does it really hurt nVidia users that much that ATI actually delivers a good card?

I just run 3DMark06 as it was installed. I am running it again now to check temps. I would think that 3DMark06 would not let you change the settings, otherwise no one will ever be able to compare 3DMark scores.. Anyway I am happy with the card.

I think Pro is just relabeled XT, so a good comparison would be to see HD 2900 XT score and compare.

Ohh I just finished the run. I found the settings button, but apparently I can't change settings because I only have free version.

My core temp got to 72C according to RivaTunner. I would guess ambient is about 25C.

Dude that's insane.....you have a great CPU.....I can't get to 875 stable in games! I can clock that high for 3dmark though.
Congrats man. How high will it go for stable, 24/7 use?

QFT! What's up with that man?

and......? How about the Crysis beta? The 2900s outperform the GTXs in the Crysis beta, especially at high res. BIoshock DX9 performs better than the Ultra, while in DX10 the GTX and the Ultra take the crown......
BTW the 2900 Pro costs almost half the price of the cheapest GTX....$269 vs $509? I'll take two 2900 Pros any day of the week....
Haters!

I though 2900 XT did very well against GTX in bioshock. I think had a link somewhere let me look for it.

Edit: Never mind I found the link. GTS beats XT so GTX will beat it even more, but for the price 2900 Pro can't be beat.

Edit2: But with latest drivers HD 2900 XT (or Pro which is the same) will kill not just GTS but probably Ultra as well. And for just 265$.
