After reading the legion ati thread you guys have I got to thinking.
Fanboys started talking ish from their sidelines , and I got left with some thoughts. This is always one of my favorite topics, really brings out the best in everybody! I can't wait to get a new ATI and test it out for myself before I judge it. I just want to point out how many people talk trash about the x2900 cards, because when they came out they sucked , drivers were not there, same happened to 8800's they sucked at first. Now the POS 2900 everybody hates is THE fastest card in the world 3dmark06 #1 rig. In fact the last time I looked I think all the top 10 slots were 2900 rigs except 1 with 2 ultras it since may have changed a bit but the proof is there. I know Nvidia made an amazing part in the 8800 series its damn uber !! and damn expensive......also nividia has partnered with almost every developer that makes games , making sure thier hardware runs the best (driver wise)I would say its pretty hard to keep drivers current and cutting edge when your main competitor is partnered with the developers , frankly I am suprised that ATI's are as good as they are with the 7.10' now.I cannot remember the last time I loaded a new game and wasnt greeted by that damn intro!! on the flip side ATI has always been diligent in thier approach to GPU solutions not needing to market themselves as hardcore as others and relying on thier reputation, not what some game tells you to go buy. To me the only benchmarks that matter are the one in your system. These clowns can write whatever they are paid too, and as we have established Nvidia has a less than stellar track record with paying people to favor them. Remember 3dmark geforce driver fiasco.!! In the end its too early to tell honestly, and I know the new parts are waaaaay cheaper to make which gives ATI the edge on marketing this time. I can't beleive more 8800 users are not freaking p'ed off, having spent 500 ish(or more) on a card that is more than likely getting swapped for a new diff version of the same thing GT in 1 yrs time !!. And now that Nvidia and all its boys are fat off the spoils ,they cut your throats on resale with the GT price..NICE!! Who is gonna buy an old gts 640 for 200 used when they can get a new 8800gt for 50 bucks more. Not to mention the endless sytems with 300 dollar 1000w psu's that will soon be outdated also, who needs 1000w in the "new" 55nm /45nm systems ?! Going with logic they will sell alot more ATIs now than Nvidia did with 8800 because you dont need monster PSU and at the base cost of 220 ish for the better one you can get 2 with Xfire and no additional money on psu upgrade . How much power you need for 2X 8800 anythings??

4th, 8th and 10th are 8800, the rest are 2900.

You make some good points, notice that ATI cards tend to beat out similar nVidia offerings in source games (The one engine out there thats ATI optimised). I just cant get my head around ATI's decision not to offer a high end card. Granted, the 3870 is right at the price point for me personally, the fact that I dont associate ATI with real gaming is whats going to keep me coming back to nVidia cards (as long as they remain competitive)

7 outa 10 aint to shabby eh.with the top 3 slots, that tells me
NVIDIA cannot touch them even for a $1600 solution 2X ULTRAs last i looked I could get 2X 2900XT's for about $800 how does that give any credability to the 8800 claims people make around here

I couldnt tell you , nobody has one that I have seen.
The point is I know they scale better than the 2900 since the 1 card is just a die shrink which should allow way higher OC. The "new" core I could not even wonder about yet. and when 680 comes out hmmmm.

i have an 8800 ultra and am proud to say so, but, the wattage they demand eats your system.....sadly the 8800 gt after some handy work beats an 8800 gtx and some near the ultra. ati however gets a slow move on things but, as many generations of cards passed have demonstrated, ati pull out front when it comes to price: performance ratio. I mean 400 for a 2900 pro that butchersa gts, sometimes even a gtx! my friend just bought 2 2900 pros, the 1gb versions, and is rocking ut3 maxed and getting insane framerates (upwards of 70) which is very comparable to an ultra, maybe 2 gtx's (this is 1280x1024, nothing crazy). hell be posting on 3dmark soon. the cards are overclocked by a decent margin and i am extremely jeleous because i paid 700 for my ultra and he pays a total fo 850 for both cards, tax included! anyway, ati is getting better as their drivers mature, i cant wait for the 38xx series, woot!

Oh shadow there is no question your card is amazing! It is crazy though how some
people bash ATI. Its great to see somebody who owns the best , realizing these issues. Here is an update for all the GT fanboys . http://iax-tech.com/video/3870/38701.htm

i think ppl dont like to admit ati has the upper hand because that makes them, the owners of an 8800, the holder of an outperformed waste of cash. lol i sure do feel cheated, but that was my mistake

You didn't really get cheated on the Ultra its the big dog 8800! and you can still sell it
for mad loot at least enough to grab a 2X card solution with the new aTI cards. I feel bad for all the people who went for the GTS's or GTX's they are the ones who got shagged with no KY after the price cut of the GT, they can sell thier stuff for what 190 dollars and as more sell them the price will be driven down.
