Default Rma'd evga 8600gts

About may 31'st i sent in my evga 8600gts and today June 16 I got my Rma back and yes it is a refurbished 8600gts, maybe not refurbished idk but it has at least been relabeled because the old SN sticker was still on the board before they put the new one on. All in all a decent turn around. I take it as a personal insult that evga has the balls to charge people extra to get a decent turn around. IMO there crap failed. My direct dealing with evga was crappy, like i was talking to smart alec morons. I doubt i will buy another evga product. Probably stick with xfx , for now replaced the 8600 with a visiontek 3870 and i am much more impressed all around. especially temperature.

I hope you know that the 8600GT/GTS is a horribly crippled card...

The 3870 is leaps and bounds better performance wise, so i hope you are making your judgments on a little more than that fact...

I am aware that the 8600gts is not a great card by any means but when i built the system i knew it would max out bf2 and thats all i needed, the price was right .

No not really, IMO i dont think a card should fail within 3 months moreover i dont think it should run @ 80 c while playing bf2. BF2 is all i play, both cards can handle maximum settings. image wize i dont see any difference, especially without comparing side by side. Simply put the evga card should not run soo hot, and in my experience with the customer service it was terrible. I assume you are referring to the fact i said i wont purchase evga , thats for 2 simple reasons they made the card like crap it failed no wonder why at such high temps , when i did need service the cust service was poor in my exp. Thats all i need nothing more. The 3870 runs around 42 C or so I mean cmon , the cooler is much beefier . built probably with the idea in mind that the frigiin thing gets hot. If only evga had such forsight. Im done ranting I saw the thread and figured id post when i rma'd a card. Excellent thread i wish the card was older and i had a better chance of getting something better as a replacement. Good luck to all

I see your point. Makes total sense. I also agree that a video card should not fail within 3 months...

I work off and on in the Electronic Engineering field, designing circuit boards. From my experience in the EE field, it is best to over egineer a piece of hardware above the specs requiered to run at, so the product will for sure do what it is supposed to do, without over heating, or dieing prematurly, because of it running at 100% all the time...

I think that is why these new Intel chips are so great. They know for sure that they can run way faster than what the advertise them at, so there are less chip failures...

This is also the same for video cards, as a circuit board, they are engineered to preform better than advertised (genrally) so that they will infact run solid at the advertised speeds. Sometimes some cards miss that target, and fall short. The 8600GT/GTS is one of those cards that runs pretty much maxed out, as you buy the card. Earliy on, when these cards came out, people were advertising that they had achieved huge overclocks from the cores, to later find that the core runs way to hot for its own good, and the memory bandwidth crippled its preformance anyways...

Just my take on the whole idea...

Got my card from Althon Micro (Sapphire's RMA dept) yesterday. They exchanged the card for a HD3850 512MB. Can't complain because the original card was a HD2900PRO. Took about a week for the whole thing.

RMA'd a BFG 7900GT that was dying, they shipped out a replacement 1-2 days after they received it.

I am probably go to RMA an XFX 7900GT soon too. However I am hesitant as I have heard that they replace it with their "Special 8600GTS" that they supposedly gave a 256bit memory bus.

My 7900 GT i got for $80 from amazon last december (2007) mainly for crysis, and to improve the framerates in half life 2 among others, worked great and loud for about 4 months, and the following may (2008) after using it in windows and linux for those months, it decides it doesn't want to function in 3D at all, and give multi color pixels in 2D, so i sent a support ticket and got an RMA number in a day, i procrastinated (idk why i was lazy, and waited a month like a fool with my radeon x550 back in there, to finally send it via USPS mail (cost $8.35 with lots of bubble packs, not bubble wrap) 2 days later (it was the weekend they got it on a monday) XFX deemed my 7900 faulty and 2 days later they say they will sent an 8600 GTS 512 mb (what i have now) and i am happy with it, since i paid $80 + 8.35, it's kind of like i got a money value upgrade, and 2000 more 3D mark 06 points and lots more FPS in all of my games even with 16xQ AA on (must be the fact that CSAA owns)
