Default Good choice?? The 8400GS 256mb

Now this is my first real video card purchase, I'm not a big gamer, do use AERO in vista, but my geForce FX 5200 worked great for 2 years handling that. But for X-Mas I got a new MOBO and decided to get a new video card while I had the chance to get one.. Now I got the Foxconn FV-N84SM2DT GeForce 8400GS 256MB Now I know it ISNT TOP of the LINE or anything, but it is DirectX 10. But seriously is it decent??? I like smooth video, even if I decide to play a game, Just wanna get some OPINIONS on it

This card might not be what you are looking for. The 8400GS would offer video on-par, or maybe a little better than NVIDIA or ATI integrated graphics on a laptop.

You might want to consider an NVIDIA 8600GT or an ATI 2600 Pro. They are good entry level gaming cards.

As you said, that's a dx10 card. It is ok for most video and low-end games but is kind of slow. Maybe get this ($64 8600GT) for long haul.

If I decide to play games sometimes I play Call of Duty 2 or some older FPS games I do wanna play GEARS of WAR badly. I did see the 8600GT but its to late, I already ordered everything should be here tomorrow. I could go the return route and upgrade, but I might just ride it out. Like I said I have been using the FX 5200 for 2 years now, and it has been doing the job(some games wont work) and that 1 is el cheapo

You might need an 8800GT to play Gears of War. But give it a shot and see for yourself if the card lives up to your expectations.

Don't bother.... Return it. Just get a 7600GT instead for around $75. For $25 more, you can a card that is 2-4 times more powerful.

The 8400GS is an entry level card. You need it only if your motherboard doesn't have onboard video and maybe some light HDTV decoding. It is useless for any real gaming.

Playing games on any entry level card will be frustrating to say the least. If you want to game you will have to spend some money. If you only have $75 to spend on a GPU, save your money and upgrade in the future. GOW will laugh at that card and you will be watching slideshow if you try to run Dx10.
