Keep your 9800GTX until the 4870 comes out. Then sell the 9800GTX and get two 4870s.

there's no doubt everyone wants ATI to succeed here, but from looking at the benches posted by our members and the god awful temps the 4850 is at, looks like nvidia still holds the crown.

You could always use Liquid cooling on the ATI cards. But I agree, the stock heatsink just does not do the job. Be prepared to buy a new one.

I'd say from the benches posted here, this is the card to buy at the moment.

My card never goes above 80C and idles around 62.

With my fan speed turned up I idle at 40c and load at 51. I score 13553 in 3dmark 06 too. Pretty damn good for a card that benchmarks worse than it performs. The performance is AWESOME in COD4.

I score 11000 in 06 with everything MAXED!! And it looks great

I am VERY happy with my card.

The heat issue from my reading is driver or bios issue not a physical issue, the fans are set to around 22% speed.

Great for sound during idle but sucks for temp during load. I would guess that will be sorted out by mid/end of july.

And all the in game benchmarks have suggested it is in general faster than 9800gtx and with new drivers compared to well sorted ones that is pretty awsome I would sell the 9800gtx before the price drops out of the bottom... I am guessing the 4850 will get to be a high demand product and you will either have a hard time finding one or spend more than the current sub 200 price to get it...

it'll be sorted out when Rivatuner lets you turn up the fan and OC it further, you'll enjoy your 4850 just like everyone else has gaming wise.

HD4850 is meant to compete against 9800GTX+ (55nm version of 9800GTX)

no, 9800GTX... they didn't know about the GTX+ until the 4850 was released - the GTX+ is the one which is fighting the 4850...

@ the OP: i'd say just grab another 9800GTX and SLI em
