Default 4850 vs. 9800GTX

Just wondering which card is actually better? The 4850 or 9800GTX? Any reviews comparing the two cards?

I was about to ask the same thing. I am going to decide tomorrow if I should get the 4850 and sell my 8800GTS 512 or not. After looking at some reviews though, it doesn't seem that much better than the 8800GTS/9800GTX...not enough to upgrade anyway. Maybe someone can change my mind, but I might just wait for the 4870.

there are plenty of 4850 vs 9800GTX threads...

nvm that here is a review the 4850 > then 9800GTX and comes close to the GTX260

Most benchmarks put the 4850 ahead of the 9800GTX. I have seen some heavily biased reviews though(*cough*firing Squad*cough*).

Biased reviews are exactly what I'm worried about...after seeing Mootfox's thread on his new 4850, it doesn't seem to perform as well as my 8800GTS which is contrary to what a lot of reviews I've been reading say....so I'm still a little confused on what to think of them.

Most of the reviews I have seen put the 4850 ahead the 9800GTX by a good margin. But in a Legitreviews review and a Firing Squad review they had the 4850(and 3870x2) with beta and older drivers at the bottom of the barrel.

Default Prices

I think I read somewhere that the 9800GTX is going to drop in price to $200? If that is so, then I might as well just wait and buy another 9800GTX and run them SLI. No matter how I look at it, it's less work and cheaper than redoing my system to acccomodate ATI. I had fun dreaming about my new X-Fire system though

I would say it is atleast is on par with the 9800gtx from my benchmarks. 3DMark06, it barely beats my 8800GT 512 when both are overclocked. However, those CoD4 benches you guys probably saw on review sites where the 4850 pulls ahead of the 9800GTX is true. I was averaging 20 FPS over the 8800GT in max resolutions, with and without AA.

In Crysis, it gets a 4 FPS boost over my 8800GT.
