Tweaktown ?...Please.

The 4870 is an awesome card and is a better performer than the 260 nearly all round!.

Also if you are looking at the folding aspect of things I would consider that Stanford will most likely release a new client to take advantage of all the stream processing the 4870 has to offer.

Either way I don't think either card is going to perform all that well at 1920x1200. That res is best left for SLI/CF rigs.

Many people would think that the gtx 260 with 896 vram would be better at such a high resolution, but the thing is the ati card with 512 vram has a huge advantage over it for one reason.

GDDR5 (FIVE) Because it uses GDDR5 the amount of memory that can be accessed and the speed at which it is accesses is substantially higher than that of the gtx 260. So even though the gtx 260 has more memory, it is easily outpaced by the 4870 due to the speed of the gddr5.

everyone forgets the awesome HD video capabilities of the 4xxx series

i'm pretty sure the gtx 260 cannot output sound through HDMI, i like the idea of having one cable to my tv to do it all

in terms of HD processing the ATI cards are tops. There was a review that had this information in it.

4870--wherever you found that review showing the 260 exceeding the performance of the 4870 AT ANY RESOLUTION is either (a) making up data, or (b) using improper drivers for the card.

Even if it were between the 280 and the 4870, I'd still go 4870--not 'cause I'm a fanboy or anything, but because, well, it's just so much cheaper--practically half the cost, and only what? 5% different in fps?
