If I had an SLI board and the GX2 had been ~300$ when I got my 4870s, I'd probably be running Quad SLI right now instead of crossfire. However, the GX2 does have its foibles (microstuttering).
I'd say, if you already have it, keep your GX2. It will be a viable GPU for a LONG time coming. Just look at the 8800 GTXs and Ultras still floating around. And they are STILL worth having.

The 9800GX2 is the superior card, but considering the price you pay for it, it's really not worth it. Save your money and wait for the 4870X2.
