I have a dell inspiron 531 with a 8600gt installed. According to everest my video card idles at 65 and it ranges from 65-71 usually stays around 68 or so. is this something i should be worried about? i cant adjust the speed of fan with rivera because its a dell computer. the fans run 30% on the cad according to everest too. So am i safe or is it too hot? playing games like css sometimes i play crysis highest ive seen it go is 72C or so.

That temp is safe as videocard temp thresholds are pretty high as it is (throttle down is at 120c I believe). Did you try adjusting the fan speed with Rivatuner?

too hot. try to find a program to raise the fan speed to 100%. im not sure witch ones would work, as your BIOS are locked, but you could try rivatuner http://www.guru3d.com/index.php?page=rivatuner or nTune http://www.nvidia.com/object/ntune_5.05.54.00.html
good luck!

IF ever Rivatuner or Ntune doesn't work try out EVGA Precision to adjust your fan speed and OC: http://www.evga.com/articles/405.asp
Download: http://files.filefront.com/EVGA+Prec.../fileinfo.html Works with any Nvidia card. I like it. ![]()

70c is fine for a G80. The card can handle temps ranging into the high 80's and low 90's if I'm not mistaken. Only ATI cards can survive temps over 100c (the 2900XT in particular).

I had one and those were the temps. Mine had Thermal Pads on, so I replaced with TIM, and it dropped them 5c. It's just a hot card.

I've had my 8600 GT running at ~100* (overclocked) for the past month, no problems yet. It went up to 107*, no artifacting or strange business even at that temp.
