8800GT is not ALOT slower, but it is slower and expensive comparing to 4850.

I have a GT and want to upgrade to 4850 for as low as possible loss of €.

Go with e4850, but you CPU MUST run atleast at 3.0Ghz.

This doesn't cost you much.Only 2€ more for the electricity and one good cooler(optional).

The 8800GT isn't "WAY" slower than the 4850. Sure it's outperformed in most games, but it's a really good card for the price.

I'd go for the 4850 if I were you though.

Based on the description, the following GPUs should be fine so see if you can get a good deal in your place. Personally, I would go for 4850 for a long run but I don't know their price over there.

1.4850
2.9800GTX/GTX+
3.8800GTS G92/9800GT
4.8800GT
5.9600GT
6.3870/3850/9600GSO/8800GS

Motherboard

+rep for all

it seems I can get the 1GB version of 4850 for just £7 increase of the 512MB version.

is it worth it in the long run to get the ASUS brand 1GB version (same clock speed etc) for +£7 more?

you know the difference between our posts was a few seconds and I'm not the OP so explaining the difference of a card to me in this thread is irrelevant.

If you're gonna do that, get an 8800GS and overclock it and save yourself $100 for the same performance as the 8800GT.
I just overclocked one for someone today and got 11619 in 3dmark06 with a C2D E7200 mildly OC'd from 2.53 Ghz to 3.17 Ghz and 2gb of 667 mhz ddr2
