What a relief WHEW...so now its connected to the AUX fan port on the Mobo and its running fine.

What amps does each 12v rail need in order for it to be effective

this is the first time this has happened so far over the past week or playing games in SLi on this setup
it says on the sticker
12v 1
18a

12v 2
18a

12v 3
18a

12v 4
18a

combined is 624w at 52a
That should be plenty of power.

Do you have a spare PSU you can try?

EDIT: I see you resolved the issue. Nice work.

Email from Artic Silver

Quote:
We always advise those that need a thermal compound for their GPU to
use Céramique. As you are getting some problems with your video card
we advise you to completely clean it with high-purity isopropyl
alcohol or ArctiClean 1 & 2, then apply Céramique or Arctic Alumina.
Céramique will give you the best performance without the potential
problems that could be caused by Arctic Silver 5 when applied to a
GPU.

From the Arctic Silver 5 page:

Not Electrically Conductive: Arctic Silver 5 was formulated to conduct
heat, not electricity. (While much safer than electrically conductive
silver and copper greases, Arctic Silver 5 should be kept away from
electrical traces, pins, and leads. While it is not electrically
conductive, the compound is very slightly capacitive and could
potentially cause problems if it bridges two close-proximity
electrical paths.)
