Well the question becomes wether or not your going to go with ATI or Nvidia from now on. If your going to upgrade your mobo a second 8800 GT in SLI will outperform a single 260 and 4870 in most games and you get to pocket an extra $100+.

not faster. this is ocn. both cards, oced to the max, the 260 is faster. the image quality is subjective and not any better imho and its not newer tech ( a few weeks doesnt count) its a smaller die, but that doesnt really matter. (the 3870 is 55nm and the 8800gt is 65nm.)

4870 is better. In general, the price difference is about $30. 4870 is about 150w and GTX260 is about 182w.

1) Crank up the AA and the HD4870 starts snipping at the GTX280.
2) The image quality is MUCH better. I can't believe this is still a point of contention. Ask anyone who went from Nvidia to ATi.
3) True. The technology isn't any newer.

it should be the 4850 vs the GTX 260 adthe 4870 vs the GTX 280. i know the prices dont match but i thinks thats where they belong. that being said GTX 260 for me

The 4870 is faster than the GTX260. If you wait until nVidia releases their GTX 270, it is supposed to be faster than the 4870 but that remains to be seen.
