I went from a Geforce 6200 to a Radeon HD3200

The graphics do indeed look better on the Radeon (At the same settings ingame)

First thing you need to do is play your game and decide if you really need a new cpu or gpu at all. Considering what ever you buy is going to cost much less in Q1 2009. Also let us know what you are/plan on playing...

At the resolution and quality I play at, the 4870 is faster. Image quality is BETTER, that is a fact. The reason I said that it is newer tech, is because it is 55nm and it supports DX10.1, which I thought was the only version of DX10 that DX11 will be backwards compatible with.

The GTX260 is not a bad card, but for the $200-$300 range, the 4870 is the card to beat.

Anyways, the GTX 260 isn't a fair contest, it should be 4870 VS GTX 280
