Gtx 260 without a doubt. I've owned them both and the 4870 just disappointed me. Its worse folding performance, pitiful overclocking capability, runs hotter, and has poor driver support.

But when I first got it, I was really pulling for it, but I have to be honest here.

I have owned both and prefer the 4870. More realistic color reproduction, and better framerate stability. My GTX 260 always looked way oversaturated no matter how I calibrated the control panel.

My first 260 (65nm) was hardly impressive as an OC'er, and my 55nm while better was still about par with the (4 different) 4870's I've owned.

Really? My 4870 has much worse min frame rates, sometimes my 8800gt was faster in certain games, like fear and far cry 2.

My 260's did better all around in some games but the 4870's have been very reliable. I would say the 260's have a notable performance edge overall but the IQ is what I stuck with my 4870's for. Side by side comparisons are hard to do and get it across, and some folks like NV's over the top colors.

It didn't look bad, just in some games like FO3 and L4D it kinda killed the immersion from being "brighter than life" I guess. It seemed like the 260's were a little too agressive with their HDR rendering.

It has been a while though so I wouldn't mind doing another compare with the latest drivers for each.

If you fold, you're gonna have to go GTX 260.
If you game,go with the 4870 hands down.

The SP is awesome as always The multiplayer is insane. The game is a lot more balanced than COD4 and feels a lot better. The maps in MP are awesome. The game is totally worth the $60.

4870 now, because you can get them for 150 dollars at the end of this week.

i'd take the GTX 260: better drivers in Linux, and nvidia seem to match ati's framerates from what i've seen despite being slightly slower (no difference from 4850 -> 8800GT both at stock for the games i play)

only issue is i'm not so happy about the way this arch handles AA but one can't have everything, eh?

either way both cards are good. i'd get the 1gb version of the 4870 though
