Well its not meant for home users.. Its meant for heavy arse CAD and all these other programs and things that require high res and good detail.

From what I understand it just processes a LARGE amount of video data very accurately at a moderate speed.

For gaming that is not what you want. For gaming you want to process a moderate amount of video data, not so accurately, at very fast speeds.

So in reality its not overkill at all.
Its the right amount for the right applications.
