Crossfire the 4850's.

I don't know who told you the 750i FTW overclocks quads better than the P5E. I've seen P5E's regularly hit 450 FSB on quads.

An alternative is of course a single 4870. You'll be within 15% of the GT's and you don't have to worry about the nasty issues that come with multi GPU solutions.

450? ie 4ghz?

on a Q6600? jeez...

i would have gone for the 4870, but it's too much of a sidegrade from my 4850, even when taking into consideration the 1gb models floating around...

Asus makes really good X38/X48 boards. If i where you, i'd stick with a single 4850, throw an HR-03 GT on it, and then Voltmod it. You can almost match a 4870 but for ~$100 less.

An HR-03 GT alone is like $50 (Not including taxes and shipping)
Not much savings there

4850 CF would be better of coarse. But if you already have a 8800GT then get another to SLI. If you have both 8800GT and 4850 then get another 4850.

4850 gets my vote. ATI is much more reliable and drivers are much better than nvidia based on news and experience.

but i have no idea on linux lol
