That's sad for me. I was hoping to catch a 4870 1GB in the Black Friday deals but it seems as I will have to just buy one now. Its gonna cost me a bit more but I can't wait for that long without a card.

I was also hoping for a resale on my GTS to somewhat negate the upgrade cost but I guess its obvious now that that won't be happening.

Guys....Alot of overclocking programs run on driver based platforms. Thus if he were to boot into safe mode the OC programs would be disabled and he could then either remove the OC programs or check his cards stability.

Try safe mode. Keep hitting F8 when you reboot your PC.

Thank you, I'll try that and report back.

Im pretty sure your card is not dead. If it shows a screen that means it works but it may not be perfect.

Try to boot onto a linux Live CD and see if that makes a difference

Well, I was able to boot into safe mode without the lines and so on. I removed the EVGA Precision utility. I tried booting normally and I still had the same problem.

I'm getting really frustrated now and I'm very concerned about my GTS.

I've seen this problem two times before.

Once when I had a Ti4200 running without a cooler. It was old anyway so I didn't really care. It started up fine and all and suddenly all sorts of lines appeared on the screen.

The second time when I had done a voltmod on a ATi 9600se and undervolted the card to much. Bumping up the volts fixed it though.

But to solve the problem, you could try to reseat your cooler.
Or try to find a voltmod for your card, and get a read on how much voltage your card gets on the core. (It could be that a resistor is broken and that because of that your card does not get enough volt)

Actually....this is kind of good news. The fact it works in safe mode and not Normal mode tells me it is likely a driver issue.

Go into safe mode and remove all instances of Nvidia Software/Drivers and use ''Driver cleaner'' to remove any traces.

Boot back into normal mode and reinstall the latest drivers.

Interesting...

I've never removed a GPU HSF before but I'm not a novice so I'm sure I could read up and get it done but....I'll probably leave that one as a last resort...in case nothing else works. I'm hoping for a software fix (maybe I'm being silly with this though). I honestly believe the card overheated.

You read my mind on that one. I was gonna try that but I said...Let me post back first and see what you guys have to say.

I'll try that in a second but after removing all traces, do you think that it will boot normally without any problems??
