Try what I said above first before messing around with the card itself.

EDIT

Yes it will boot fine after removing all traces. You will just be on a very basic VGA driver provided by the OS.

I am using the 180.24 Betas and they work great for me.

Well I re-installed the 180.43 beta (which is exactly what I was using) and I think that may have been a bad idea. I was back to square one.

So.....
I did everything all over again...
I'm about to install 178.24 WHQL now. I hope this works!!!

Well whatever works for you dude. I am using the BETA and folding and so far so good but you may want to stick with the WHQL as you have.

Glad you fixed it!
I tend to stay away from beta drivers...oh the horrors..
Anyways, at least now you can sell your 8800 for your 4870 fund

Bad news guys. I'm back on the 8400GS now because none of that worked for the GTS. I'm still back to square one.

Maybe the card really is done for.

Well, I was planning on getting a 4870 1GB card around Black Friday but obviously I won't be able to wait until then, so I might just pull the trigger in about a half an hour or so.

I really wanted the SAPPHIRE HD 4870 1GB Toxic Edition card but that went OOS just about an hour before I decided to just buy a new card.

Which of the other cards would you guys suggest from here??

Cool

Well guys, I pulled the trigger on the HIS HD 4870 1GB.

I think its a good card and I don't really think I'll be missing anything much from the Toxic. Give me your thoughts please and thanks.

Edit: I got a rep point...How do I know who gave it to me and why? Who did I help? Or is it that I'm just cool...
