Default ASUS 8800GT Problems

Hey all,
Recently bought an ASUS 8800GT and I'm having some problems.
It came with a program called SmartDoctor which gives you stats and stuff, it's telling me it's idle at 45 Degrees (c). Now I'm no expert but it should be cooler. When i run some games i occasionally get the BSOD.
I have narrowed it down to one possible cause, that it can't deal with anti-aliasing. So easy just turn it off in your games? WRONG!!!
Spore, which runs without anti-aliasing does it most often (whilst being a graphically simple game), does it most often, sometimes after 10 sec, sometimes after 5 hours.
Crysis, run on very high detail with 4x anti-aliasing (so mega-complicated graphics) has done it twice in a total of around 70 hours playing time.
Far Cry 2, run on highest detail with 4x anti-aliasing has never done it so *** is going on?
After ALT-F4ing Crysis straight to SmartDoctor in the background, i found it was running at 80 Degrees (c). But after trying to do it again i found it was running at 55.

Any possible solutions would be greatly appreciated.

Those temps are normal, so i suspect the problem lies with software or drivers, not the card itself.

those temps are normal like alex said. I have that exact same card. Make sure you download the latest drivers from Nvidia, not from asus. Also DO NOT install GamerOSD that asus tell you to download. It causes lots of errors in games and is nothing but trouble. What i have is, latest Smart Doctor, NO gamer OSD and latest drivers from NVidia i would do that and then tell us if you still get these problems?

Thunder

ps. i do hope this helps

Hey thanks.
I killed gamerOSD, pointless program, so many others do it better.
And i updated all my drivers from ASUS, i'll give the nvidia ones a go, any compatability issues on them before i try though? (this computer runs a small business and if it dies i'm screwed)

no compatability issues, im running them at the moment. you will need to uninstall the asus driver first then download nvidia and install. what cpu do you have btw?

You shouldn't have your small business on a gaming computer. It should be on a work PC with a USP...

BTW, Everything is backed up to external HDDs so no problem if it dies really, and i got plenty of parts to fix it if i fry anything.
