My 7600GT is DDR2. I was looking to replace it with a new one and give one of my friends my 7600GT. I've seen cards with GDDR2 (2600pro/xt, 3650) and GDDR3 (3850). Now I already know that GDDR3 is much faster than ddr2, but what is the performance or bandwidth difference with ddr2 and gddr2?

if your looking for a AGP video card just get a 7900GT or x1950 pro if you can find one
it will be faster and they both have GDDR3

GDDR2 and DDR2 are pretty much the same AFAIK (In other words, suck majorly)

GDDR2<DDR2<GDDR3. GDDR2 is not full DDR2 JEDIC spec wise it is between DDR and DDR2. It does not have performance-enhancing doubling of the I/O clock (Wiki). Don't think they are using GDDR2 anymore. DDR2 used in video cards now is the same as system DDR2. It is incorrectly referred to as GDDR2. GDDR3 is not like DDR3 it is actually closer to DDR2 with lower voltage and some modifications to improve graphic performance. This allows lower voltage and more stability which translates into less heat and higher clocks than DDR2.
__________________Your link to 2600XT looks ok but this link IMHO is better. 3850 has GDDR3. Even with slower core speed. The 320 Stream Processing Units vs 120 and 256bit vs 128bit should make the 3850 crush the 2600XT. My link has a rebate so cost is the same.

your better off with an hd3850 agp
__________________When speaking performance bandwith there are several things to consider. One GDDR3 clocks Way better than DDR2. I had 7600GS SLI And it was amazing. at the time and had DDR2 Now there is no way to compare the bandwith of AGP vs PCIE. PCIE is several times faster. So your better off getting a new motherboard. ECS has one for HT P4's for about $50.00 online or so. But you best option is to get a pcie board and a new gpu. A guy here localy is selling a 7900GS AGP card for $60.00 If your interested i can get him your email adress.

Thanks for the help guys. I checked out the 3850 and most likely it wouldn't fully work in my rig since it requires 450+ watt PSU and mine is 430 watt and it has 18A on 12V rail.
CyberBoy, no need to e-mail him. So far it looks like I'm sticking with HD 2600XT for now

Makes sense. I used AMD GPU Tool to OC might also work on that card increased 3DMark06 by just over 25%.

Also, I am not in need of drastic increases in FPS. I did more research and found that 2600XT uses a bit less power than my 7600GT. Less power + more performance = WIN!
Asus Mobile, that is an impressive increase!

rofl wow no worries the 3850 will work with your system no problem, they bloat up the psu requirements just so the consumer can stay safe.
As for videocard, your better off with this: http://www.infonec.com/site/main.php...tail&id=437232 EDIT: actually never its GDDR2 so its even slower than the 2600XT GDDR3 but i have seen better prices on the 2600XT, where do you live in Canada?
