I am upgrading my computer with a budget of ~$420 and am planning on getting another 4gb of G.skill DDR2 1066, a second 250GB AAKS for RAID 0 and a video card. $420 - $110 (Hard drive and RAM cost added together) = $310. With this I was originally planning on grabbing one of the new EVGA 55nm GTX 260 Core 216 cards for ~$255, and saving the remaining money for a case upgrade in the near future.
I was all ready to order when I stumbled across this 4850x2 2GB for $299.99 shipped after MiR. This would completely max out my budget even after MiR (it's over-budget before the rebate), so there'd be no case upgrade for awhile. I don't think either of these cards would fit in my current case without cutting into the hard drive bays, so length of the cards wouldn't really be an issue here. Obviously the 4850x2 is better than the GTX 260, but is the price difference worth it? And does the 4850x2 have any micro-stuttering issues? And would my OCZ 600w PSU be able to handle it?

For your rez, buying the HD4850X2 is not justified. I just had this talk with my brother in law, whom wanted to do the very same thing. I talked him out of it. Just get the GTX 260 216.

GTX 260 216.
Less heat, cheaper, will handle everything at 1680x1050, EVGA customer service.

Yeah but that's like buying a Ferarri that you can only drive on a 25mph road.

Just for the curiosity's sake, at what resolution would a 4850x2 become a better buy than a GTX 260?

I dont get it? We will not be gaming? Also 55nm version is not as good as people though. It runs hotter then 65nm because of cheaper cooler it consumes more power then 65nm.
