Default HD 4870x2 = BSOD help...

I just installed a HD 4870x2 to replace my 9800gt last night and after playing crisis warhead for a few hours as soon as I close the game the main menu in the game hangs for a few seconds and it gives me BSOD. I have no idea what is going on with my rig please help me..

Here are my specs:

Asus Maximus extreme
Corsair Dominator 1800mhz running @ 1333mhz 7-7-7-18
Diamond HD 4870x2 @ stock
FSP Kingcraft 1000w psu
QX6850 @ 3.0ghz (stock)

I dont know if this will help but after I installed the HD 4870x2 to my rig, it would turn on all the way until i switched to a different PCIe connector( prolly a diff. rail but I am not sure). I have 20amps on all my four rails.

THanks!!!

Also try updating the drivers

uninstall the old drivers completely and install new ones.

I had the exact problem.

I downloaded the drivers from amd.com. I believe its the 8.12 version. I also upped the fan speed to 65% and it still BSOD. I will try to up it again when I get home and see what happens..

Yes. But when I installed the card physically, I booted up with the old driver from the old video card then I uninstalled it. I knew it was not the right way but I just got too lazy coz I already put the old video card in the box for return.

What is the best software to stress my gpu so I will know if the BSOD is due to overheating although the fan of the 4870x2 is already manually set to 65%.

THANKS...

I doubt it's overheating. A clean install of Vista should fix your problems.

The BSOD is most likely the drivers. they have to be completely removed from the pc for the new drivers to be installed correctly
