Arrow EAH4870 has just died - time for a new card.

Hey guys,

It seems I usually find problems about the products I'm using after I buy them. I've realized Asus's EAH4780 is having lots of problems with its fan when I've registered on Asus forums - which was after I've got the card, of course. Praying that it won't happen to me didn't help. My card is now officially dead.

Since I don't have an alternate machine and so I'm unable to dig through the forum, I have to go for the unpopular suggestion thread.

I want a card that will has the best potential at the moment to last for a long while. I don't plan on upgrading anytime soon. It should be compatibile with a new 24" I am planning to buy (and I don't know which one that is - so suggestions are welcome for that one as well).

Thanks in advance.

What's your budget?

I really like my GTX 280s and at $349.99 they're much cheaper than they used to be. If you can't spend that much, a GTX260 216 would work great.. or you could just get another 4870 (although clearly I encourage nvidia ).

If you're strapped for cash, a 4850 would be a good choice, that or a 9800GTX + (they're close in performance).

I will RMA it, in a way where I'm getting another (better) card from my reseller, while adding a little bit more cash. Yeah, I wasn't really clear before about budget. Let's say up to 300€ for a card.

The benefit of going Asus is that they have a 3 year warranty. I've had no issues with my 4870 or my 4870X2 from Asus.

RMA it.

A lot of people say the gtx260 core 216 (55nm) is a good choice, and I'll agree too.

Get a GTX280 even. In my area there is one you can order for $349CAD, which = 200 euro approx?

RMA the 4870. Then, buy this and two of these and you will be set.

Much cheaper too.

The Accelero S1 on my X1900 keeps that chip at 40C, and it will NOT move either way. Not even GTA IV can get it to heat up any. I <3 this cooler.

If the card still works, buy the cooler and fans and forgo the RMA.
