Default General video output question

My wife and I will be moving soon...Woot!

so that means I will be getting access to all of my hardware once again. However I have aquired another monitor and was wondering if it is possible to split the signal to 2 monitors without having to upgrade the gfx card. I want to stretch the screen across the 2 monitors and was considering one of these

Monitor Splitter

Is this what I would need for my work PC to have a dual monitor setup with an onboard gfx setup?

That will be good if you want identical picture on all displays, but if you want the desktop spanned across two monitors, that won't work; you'll need something like Matrox DualHead2Go. Digital Edition for DVI, Analog Edition for VGA.

Those things are rather pricey, though.

so what I am thinking is that I need a gfx card that supports a dual monitor setup and then split off of that? Ugh small form factor video cards are such a pain to find.

That's another possibility. What do you mean by "small form factor", though? What kinda case do you have? Any lower-end card (9500GT/HD4650 and down) should fit just about any case, even small form factor ones, unless your rig is some myriad VIA subatomic-ITX setup...

Lowest-end cards like 8400/9400 series and down or HD43xx/33xx series should fit pretty much anything that is theoretically possible to upgrade.

Yeah, I would do dual monitors within drivers as opposed to a piece of hardware. You'd need a dual DVI card.
