Default PC freezing with Sapphire 4870

I made another thread about this but this is kinda more elaborate. I've been having issues with my Sapphire 4870 in that it crashes (freezes, with no artifacts, and the sound stops) games; Hard reboot basically. It freezes really fast in COD4, whereas all other games usually freeze after a long while. I recently bought a 4870 1GB version, which i assumed didn't freeze, but it still does. But recently, i encountered a wierder problem. My PC froze when i was on the EVE website. I played GTA IV all day prior (for 4 or 5 hrs). I then turned my PC off. I then turned it back on again and i was talking to someone on steam, then it froze after about 10 mins on the EVE site. This problem really shocked me because it had never frozen on anything not a game before. This is now making me think that it may not be the graphics card that's the problem. I was told to run memtest86+ (ive got 2x2GB XMS2 sticks), which i will do tomorrow (i'm really tired). I basically wanted your advice and help on what you think this problem is, because i'm starting to think it's not the graphics card anymore.

Sounds like RAM, PSU, or a bad overclock. Check all of these, by running tests, and if it is one of these, either swap out the RAM, lower the overclock, or, if the problem consists, try out the PSU.

Overclock? I haven't overclocked anything! Unless some of my hardware is pre-overclocked.

macgta, I had the same problem recently with my new 4870.
The problem for me was that my Power supply wasn't giving emough power to my graphics card, and I fixed the problem by using a secondary power supply to power my graphics card.
It's a bit weird, but it works now and it hasn't rebooted during a game since, but it's a power guzzler as my computer now runs off 1400W.

Hope you get your system working.

I think i written the first post wrong. What i meant is that the pc freezes as if you've pressed pause on a video, meaning i have to press reset button, to reboot it. It's not a power issue i'm using a coolermaster 650w supply. Anyway i had no idea it was overclocked, how did you tell?
