Default 8800GT to GTX260(192) or 4770CF

Hey guys.

I'm still using my trusty old 8800gt, but it's time for an upgrade.

The prices of new gpu's in South Africa is very high. A new GTX260 goes for $400 maybe a bit less. Now i might be able to swop my 8800gt for a GTX260 (core 192) + $140. The problem then is i won't be able to watercool it since i will have to import the MCW60 mounting kit for the GT200 chipset. Imoprting is even more expensive for us.

OR

I can wait till the 4770's get released sel my 8800GT + a Thermalright HR 03 GT for $100 & buy me 2 4770's & crossfire them.

I'm leaning towards the 4770's. What do you guys think?

(i know you can't base your decision on something that haven't been released yet) I'm not sure how the mem sharing works, so if i crossfire 2 - 512MB cards, do i only have 512MB usable then?

Two 4770's will go like scream stink presumably, without burning your PSU to a crisp.

Two 4770's will be almost like two 4850's or a 4850X2 which beats a GTX 280.#

Decision: 4770 CrossFire.

go nvidia, if you get it thru evga you can also step up to a bigger card in the near future, always a good choice.

The Step - up option aren't available in South Africa.

Or should i rather just get a single 4870 512MB, it will probably cost exactly the same as two 4770's.

I will be watercooling any gpu i get.

How much more would the HD4890 be over the HD4870? I mean if you are going to watercool, I can foresee a 1Ghz+ core

The cheapest 4870 in SA is the Force3d model with that DHT cooler & they go for $260 & the cheapest 4890 is the Biostar & they go for $360

I really hope the 4770's oc good, because i'm sure there are alot of people that won't be watercooling them & i will be able to get some nice clocks on them, hopefully.

If i have to guess, they will be in the region of $130 in SA, but then again i heard some forums say they will be more expensive than the 4830's/ The 4830's are'nt even cheaper than the 4850's here The cheapest 4830 & 4850 in SA go for $170-180.

The release price is usually a bit higher. For example over here, the release price of the HD4890 was €259, and now that same card costs €214. That's a pretty big difference.
