I was wondering if going SLI / Crossifre would benefit me when trying to render in Maya or any other 3D application ? I have been told that rendering is dependent on cpu power, not gfx cards, but I just need to find out from an expert to make sure. " Cpu QX9650 @ 4ghz & 8GB DDR3 Ram "

No not yet, although there are lots of rumours that GPU accelerated rendering will find its way into mental ray and vray soon.
