hi guys, i am about to run 2 24" monitor and have 1 HD4870 1Gb. My question is will over all performance drop because I am adding a second monitor? (ie because quality will need to be split between 2 monitors?)
Will 2 hd4870 in CF improve overall performance with Dual Mont.......? thanks

Dual monitor has nothing to do with performance.

Depends if you going to be gaming on both of them.. (Which I doubt because Dual Screen is horrible for gaming).

A monitor has nothing to do with system performance.
Unless you stretch the screen over both monitors to game...

oh really? so if I was playing a game at 1680x1050 and then added a second monitor, i'd be playing at 3360x1050 right? You dont think that would affect performance?

If you are gaming with two monitors then yes your performance will drop. Now for the desktop the performance drop is trivial.

Well dual (and even triple) screen setups are AMAZING for flight sims, racing sims and even RTS' like supreme commander.
And yes peformance will take a hit when using multiple monitors which are both displaying a unique part of the game due to the increased res.

Performance is strictly limited to resolution. Comes down to the same argument, "Will my Video Card Support a 60" Monitor?" Resolution is the name of the game. As long as you're not going to try and stretch your games across the two monitors, you should be fine.

If you plan on playing at 3840x1200, then yes there would be a 20% - 30% decrease in performance. I would recommend getting a second 4870 for crossfire just in case, but if your sticking with 1 monitor for gaming and the other for multi tasking, you don't have to worry about performance decreasing.

oh by the way, I've used dual monitor before in flight simulator 9. The performance drop was significant but not crippling (25 frames down to 14). And that was with a 2600XT. If your going to game with dual monitors, 4870 1GB should be able to handle. If your going to play games which require high frame rates (flight sims generally do not) the ball's really in the air on this one. A 4870 should be able to handle a flight sim with no problem. But if you really want snappy frame rates with dual screen, you may want to get that second 4870.
