I didn't think this was true, but after using the ATI Control Center I'm really disappointed.

gtx285 wins performance contest.
but 4890 is more cost effective. its all up to your taste. both are top card of its producer. you cant get wrong with either of them.

Lets use common sense here ladies and gentlemen. If a a regular GTX 285 beats a 4890, but a OCd 4890 beats a stock 285 what is gonna happen when we put a Ocd 285 against a ocd 4890? lets take a guess. a Ocd 285 will be a ocd 4890. Whoo 1ghz+ core clock...ati is all about core clocks cause their sp sucks. the way the two cards work are differently. what ATI doesnt excel in nvidia does and vise versa. IF and this is a big IF price doesnt concern you GTX 285, because your not gonna get better. If budget look at a 4890 or a GTX 275 that is a better comparison than a 4890 to 285.

Then, oh wait, the 4890 is cheaper, so if a 4890=285, but a 4890 $100 less? gtx fail. EDIT: i see someone above added something that is along the lines of what i mean. They are equal. 4890=285, plus thats a crysis benchmark lol. ultimate gtx fps boost in that.

No, we aren't doing this again. GTX 285 wins performance, but it's overpriced. GTX 275 and HD4890 can overclock to compete with the GTX 285 at stock, but the overclocked GTX 285 wins the performance crown overall.
My summary, the HD4890 will perform excellently. Good buy.

I thought you could overclock the Toxic 4890's much farther (percentagewise) than a standard 285 could overclock... like, from 850mhz (reference) on the 4890 to 1050mhz relatively easily, whereas you're lucky to get 10% on the 285?
Someone correct me if I am wrong on this...

Your right on that, but clock speed works differently with the GTX cards. If a 285 and 4890 both get a 100MHz clock increase, the GTX would show more improvement from it.
