30-45 fps in generally a minimum for me, I prefer 60+ FPS aswell.
I had been stuck on a 4870 512MB which wasn't giving me a decent enough framerate. Temporarily downgrading and turning down settings made me re-realize how important a smooth framerate is to good gameplay. Sometimes I do miss my old CRT. 85+hz FTW

I've heard triple buffering helps but haven't gotten a chance to test it and not sure it works on a crossfire setup.

I'm not even sure a lot of my games play at 60+ FPS maxed at 1920x1080, but aside from Crysis I haven't noticed any of them dipping so low to the point where it's unplayable.
__________________I hardly ever watch FPS, but I'd say around 30+ I'm happy. The only specific game is Fallout 3, if that's not at 45+ FPS it really bothers my eyes.

It really depends on what type of game you play. Slower paced games like an RTS or RPG can get away with framerates between 30-45 and still have very nice game play. But any game that has a lot of movement having frame rates in that range tend to give me problems.
If you are looking to play a game, then 30 min is acceptable, but 30 average is not. but the difference between 30 and 60 is noticeable to just about anyone and is much smoother

I think for me it's an immersion issue. I feel that choppy frame rates break the illusion (but so do weird tweaks that improve gameplay e.g. no shadows or short view distances).

Above system requirements of the game + no fps meter = happiness
To many people watch fps meters, but it also does depend on the optimization of an individual game. I played half life 2 on a 8500GT and a AMD X64 2.7 Ghz, fps ran about 35, with this set up I see it was in the 120's Do I play better? Does it look better? I myself see no difference in playability. With that said once FPS in a shooter or racing game drops below 30 and bounces around then I can detect it with my eyes. Some say they can see differences between 100 and 70 fps, considering movie in the theater is 24 and tv/dvd/video tape are 30, I find it a bit hard to believe the eye can see differences above say 50's Studies have been done and you can find all sorts of opinions on fps and the human eye, truth is I really do not think any proper test has ever been done?

Actually movies in the theater are shown at a refresh rate of 48 or 72 hz. Each frame is shown two or three times.

I play Crysis at 24fps ( I have a tool that can cap the frame rate to what ever you want for any game )
Maxed out, 4x AA + 4x TRSS and its butter smooooooooth and never drops below 24fps

I know with the nvidia controll pannel you can force it to "pre-render" frames miliseconds before they are actuaually displayed. I don't know how this works, but it helps choppyness slightly!
