A lot of review sites will say that as long as the minimum is above 30 then it's all good, but I personally find the choppiness to be extremely annoying at anything below 60? Is there some setting I'm missing which makes gameplay not choppy at 45 fps? Am I just overly sensitive?

I used to be cool.

Some engines are better than others at making everything look smooth. Some games DO look choppy under 60fps. Others are fine at about 20 or above (cryengine).

That's just because everybody is used to playing it at 15fps. Set graphics to medium and experience 60fps+ minimum, there is a huge difference.

Ive been playing fallout 3 and it's just felt choppy lately despite being around 55 fps and a minimum of 40

Choppyness sucks. I'd rather have a minimally lower graphic quality (less AA, e.g.) than letting the game run unsmoothly.

as long as things don't drop below 30 i'm happy, there's definitely a difference between 30 and 60 fps but i don't really notice that much

I curl up in the fetal position and cry.
Honestly, I can't stand anything under 60 fps on anything other than Crysis. Hell, with Crysis I can handle 10 fps. ~Gooda~

I mainly play WoW. I get 60fps everywhere but Dalaran, where I get 30-45 fps. It's annoying when the framerate drops.
On Xbox360, I used to play Dark Sector (no idea why I was playing that game in the first place, lol). I'd get a solid 60 fps, then round a corner and bam, 30 fps. It's annoying. 30fps is fine for film for it to look smooth. 60fps is fine for games for them to have the film-quality smoothness. My $0.02.
