Default What gpu?

So i need to get a better gpu for my sig rig. Obviously playing games at 1080p on a 8 shader gpu is not going to get a person far. So what do you think i should go with for this rig. Btw im limited to 1 pci express x16 slot so no crossfire or sli for me other then dual gpu cards of course. I've limited down to ati 4890, 4870 x2, or nvidia gtx 285 or gtx 295. Personaly im leaning twords ati but what do you think?

I do play crysis and alot of fps games if that helps
Do some games with the family, wow, dark age of camelot, vanguard, ect.

What they don't show in most reviews is the actual visual framerates instead of the amount reported by the program, so I tend to prefer big single-GPU cards instead of two slightly slower cards as they ''look'' smoother even though the frames are the same or a bit lower.

The best value right now is in the GTX260 and 4870, easily.

The next step up IMO is the GTX275 and 4890.

The GTX285 is a tiny bit better than the other two, but not noticeably. I only got it because I wanted the best performance a single GPU can offer, and I got a really good price.

I have to buy a new power supply anyway, a 350 watt psu just wont cut it. Going for a corsair modular psu, mostlikely a 750 or 850 watt, 1000 is just over kill for this rig as it cant support multiple gpu's.

Might end up doing so. as for the gt 300 series idk, 512 shaders and gddr5 will be kick ass, but i have a strange feeling this will the the nvidia 8000 series all over again with the $800 premium's, time will tell i guess.

Get a 285.
Thats what i just got a month or so ago.
Its a beast, regardless of the new gt300 series, or whatever is coming out.
Its going to be a few years before something can beat x3 gtx285's in sli.
So thats what i am aiming for. Next month ill be buying my second gtx285.
Good luck on your decision.

Go with the GTX 285 hands down. There is always the 4890 also that has around the same performance for less.

Get the 4870x2, it packs quite a lot of power.
