go with ati if you want the best bang for the buck around the same performance as the 260 gtx.
the 4890 is better but will also cost a little more ofcause just get the cheapest card available the brands doesnt really matter..performance wise.

I agree. Usually the only thing that differs from brand to brand is cooling (sometimes) and clocks. As far as I know, the 4870 doesn't have a huge issue with temperatures so you should be good with the vanilla (stock) cooler. Go cheap or go home

Also, from your budget, it seems you could afford a decent 4890 as well...
xe.com says $200 is about £124.

Since you have a larger budget, I'd go with Sapphire or XFX as they both have great warranties. The Sapphire TOXIC has a pretty good cooling solution. It's on sale for a very low price at ewiz. I don't know how much shipping would be, but it may be worth it.

I just bought one last night/this morning.

you could also save some money going with 512mb video memory instead of 1gb. you "only" have a 22" so you'll not be able to run over 1680x1050 anyway
hmm although if you was thinking of upgrading your monitor " in a couple of years then maybe not such a great idea.

These are the best prices I can find for the 4890.
The XFX one is a good bet. Postage takes you to £150.

For that money you can choose which ever 4890 you want and that is the card to have.

You can pick one up for about £135, get the XFX one as they offer the best customer service witth double lifetime warranty.

The GTX260 is a pretty damn good bang for your buck. It has like a 20% performance over a 4850. But I can play crysis on high at 1280x1024 with no AA and have 40-50 (sometimes 60-70 )

Thanks for the advice people, just gotta wait for a few things to sell on ebay then i think im gonna go with a XFX HD 4890.

Quick question, what kind of rig, or how many gpu's would it take to run crysis very high 1680 x 1050 at a playable frame rate ?
