If 100fps is your minimum, you are going to be sorely disappointed. I would say, you're going to get higher fps with XP than in Vista.

What are we talking about here, around 60-70? With 1.6 I'd say you're being really picky, no offense. Even with CSS 60 is great. I average 60 in HL2.

Go to Nvidia's website and select the 7 series, language, OS, and uninstall old driver. Reboot, install new one. Reboot.

If my memory serves me right, you're sitting on a video card that runs dx8+. As CS1.6 is pre-dx8, your video card does little if any processing in the game. a Pentium 4, even one as slow as yours, should be perfectly capable of running CS1.6 on its own. That said, your system was never meant to run vista.

The best thing you can do at this point is overclock your processor and kill background processes. Perhaps lower your game resolution as well if you are comfortable doing so.

Oh... and CS:S may actually run just as well on that system.

When all is said and done however, you're talking about theoretically imperceptible differences in FPS in an archaic game on an obsolete system.

Are you running with V-Sync on? There is no reason you should be averaging 60 fps with your sig rig on ANY source game unless it's artificially capped (V-Sync). Try turning V-Sync off and re-testing your fps.

Hint hint - V-Sync caps your FPS at ~60

Well it caps it to whatever your monitor's refresh rate is, to be precise.
