Default Pricing in 2007!

I'm glad I wasn't into this stuff in 2007... You paid a lot for what is now not much at all... I hope the ATI 870 series and the 300's from Nvidia do the same to the current cards. Though I currently feel like $260 for my 4890 was a little steep since the Toxic sells for less than that now. Such is life.

Quote:
Again performance was good but not mind blowing, and we felt given time the Radeon HD 2900XT may improve as the drivers matured. This article was also published in May of 2007 and now four months later we are still trying to decide which of these three graphics cards delivers gamers with the best bang for their buck. At the moment the average Radeon HD 2900XT graphics card still seems to be retailing for around $400 US. Then we have the GeForce 8800 GTS which comes in 320MB and 640MB flavours. The 320MB cards seem to be priced around $300 US while the 640MB cards cost around $380 US.

Then there is the mighty GeForce 8800 GTX which starts around the $500 US mark, with many priced at $550 US. So really the battle is between the Radeon HD 2900XT and the GeForce 8800 GTS (640MB) graphics card. That said, it is still important to compare the performance of the 8800 GTX as well, to get a better picture of where these three GPU’s stand in terms of performance. Therefore using the new Catalyst 7.8 and the Forceware 162.18 drivers in a range of gaming titles, we can finally get a clear picture of where these graphics cards really do stand!

You know in 2 years someone's gonna be sitting around with his HD 6890 X2 going, "I'm sure glad I wasn't into this stuff in 2009!"

Wow I was running two 2900XTs at the time. I think I paid around $370 for each. Gota deal on them to. Served me well until I bought the beast I have now.

Good read though.

The 4xxx series really did change things.

A 4870 1 GB can max out almost any game and it is way south of $200.

In other words, the price to max out this generation's current games costs less than half of what it used to.

Hell I feel these effects already. I paid $210 for a my first 4870 512MB, and even at the time it had gone way down in price. all of my 4890s costed less than that.

The one thing that does irritate me is how the price of hard drives doesn't go down....at all. >.<

If it wasn't for the epicness of the G80 and G92 then we wouldn't have had the prices of today.
