Hey guys, I currently own a 4850 but I can get a 4830 for really cheap...
__________________Below half the price of a 4850... My mobo is an asus M4A78-E and supports crossfire in 8x8x mode... My mobo is pcie 2.0. So my question is, will a 4850+4830 in crossfire on my mobo with my specs be better than a 4870? I'm not really worried if my 4850 drops to 4830 specs but when they work together, will they defeat a 4870? My CPU is a 550x2@ 3.9 and I got 4x1gb ocz 800 sticks my psu is a corsair tx750... Thanks guys

Yes they will crossfire just fine. I'm actually doing the same thing. My Sapphire card was actually a 4830 which wasn't locked, it had all 800sp, so I just flashed it to a 4850.
Not only will they beat a 4870 but a 4890 or GTX280

I thought since the 4830 is lower clocked, that the 4850 will be underclocked to match it's specs? Or is my CF knowledge outdated?

![]() Beat a 4890? Really, that's awesome... How would I flash a 4830 to be a 4850? Muncha, I believe what you saying is correct but if a 4850+4830 beats a 4870 and 4890 for below half the price than it's really got me all exited

Both can run at different speeds (and for a while too). As for OP it will run fine and you will have more performance that a 4870. If your card has 800SP's you should flash it to a 4850 BIOS so you have increased performance

The is the last 4800 CF setup I haven't tried yet. Since both are DDR3 should be a good pairing.

Ok so my current 4850 has:
__________________Gpu clock: 625mhz memory clock:1986mhz 800 stream process units the 4830 I just ordered has: Gpu clock:575mhz memory clock:1800mhz And only 640 stream processing units... Both ddr3 and 256bit Memory bus width... Will I still beet a 4870? I haven't seen a 4830 with 800 stream processing units yet? Thanks

You can't flash the 4830 to 4850, but 4830+4850 in CF would be nice performance.. It should get near 4890.

You will beat a stock 4890 with that setup but a 1Ghz 4890 will overtake you.
