Default Nvidia taken the market?

Put this thread up for some open discussion to get some opinions. I've noticed myself alot of games run/work alot better and smoother quality with an Nvidia card as opposed to an ATi card. For example NFS:shift and UT3 along with many others in the pc games thread people post 'another game favoured by Nvidia'. I have a 4850 in my computer and I get lower fps as opposed to when I put my 9800 in?

Does anyone else have this problem or noticed this?

Why is it surprising that the 9800 gets better FPS then the 4850?

The 4850 out performs my 9800 in the majority of games apart from a selection, that the 9800 prefers. But would of thought the ATi would be far superior, actually let me re-phrase my first post not that I get low FPS but the gameplay seems choppy even at a constant 60fps by the ATi? I'm no expert hence here for some advice and feedback.

I can't agree that Nvidia offers anything above Ati in terms of graphic quality. As far as speed, it varies game to game, but most are so close that they're indistinguishable. I use both companies' cards regularly and have no preference.

9800 what? GT, GTX, or GTX+?

From reviews I've seen, the 9800GTX+ and HD4850 are pretty darn close (9800GTX+ winning in a lot of games especially without AA/AF, but the HD4850 generally handles AA/AF better). But IIRC, the HD4850 beats the 9800GT in most cases, which is basically an 8800GT rebrand. I also believe the HD4850 has the upper hand on the 9800GTX, as well.

i noticed that SLI is a bit better on X58 then crossfire. with SLI my average FPS was higher ( with 2 cards) but my high was higher with ATI and lows were just a tad lower.

edit: tri fire just blows anything out of the water so thats not the case anymore.

Sure there are some games that may perform better with an nVidia card, but overall, the HD4850 should be giving you better performance. Again, I guess it depends on what games you play.

Well I have run Nvidia cards almost exclusively for the last ten years, from the geforce 2 to the 8800GTS 512 and aside the 4890 is the most beastly card I've used yet. Games play great, look great and I haven't really run into performance issues even at max settings with any game except Crysis. Nor have I had driver bugs or crashes.

Now I really liked the card I ran before the 4870 too, the G92 8800GTS and never had problems with it either. But I have owned both the 4870 and 4890 and have loved 'em so much I think I am going to stick with ATI again this coming generation with the 5000.
