Default Is it mobo's prob or Nvidia GT9800 Dead (?)

The tech at a little computer shop told me on the phone that maybe my Video Card is the problem (He said mebay it's memory).

When I want to install XP, I get the "press any key to boot from CD" and if I wait the 4-5 dots, weird symbols appear. One at the botton of the screen and one below the "press.."

I can get the first part of installation, but when it has to reboot, it comes back to the "press.." and won't get over it, symbols appear, installation stops.

I was able to install Ubuntu Succesfully (on a USB HDD tho...)

He also said, maybe it was one of the RAM sticks, and to run a memory test with a program (like on a live cD)...

My Questions:
- Is there such a live cd that would allow me to test my videocard ? (it's memory, bios, etc..)
- is it because I updated my Mobo's bios ? (Asus M2N-E, bios 1701)
edit: 3rd: If I'm able to install and Run Ubuntu, does it mean my Graphic Card is ok ?

And the second part I must tell you...
My primairy HDD died with the OS, I had another HD as backup.
So I took G-Parted to make another partition on my second HDD, to try to install XP on it... when I get to choose on which partition I want it, My back-up folders are on "C:" (which was G: before my 1st HDD screwed up), or "D:"

Because I don't want to risk my datas on "c:" I try to install the OS on D: ...
Does it matter ?
I'm not so sure, I would expect a "Disk BOOT Faillure" after the "press any key to load from CD rom" IF that would be the problem.

I'm sorry for such a long post, but I really need some help...
Thanks a lot!

I'm trying something now...

I changed the flag of the partition with G-Parted... the back up Partition had Bootable, and the 2nd (D didn't...

I turned back-up has hidden and the 2nd as bootable and shrunk it to 111GB to avoid any "too great size" issues...

Haven't seen the symbols so fat after the "PRess any key to boot from cd-rom", it only said NTR missing or something.. which is to me somekind of ray of hope.

Trying an installation at the moment.

Thanks for help

ps: memory tested fine with memtest.. bios seems great.. I really hope it was the hdd

edit: IT WORRRRRKEDDDDDDDDDDDDDD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
After 3 days of Bios flashs, cmos clears, unplugin and plugin my whole rig...

By putting the backup as Hidden, it was no longer the C:, and therefor my 2nd partition became C: and no more weird symbols

I really wonder what those symbols were tho... (x-files theme playing)
