Default Thinking of upgrading, suggestions?

I'm thinking of upgrading my GPU at the moment. More or less kicking tires right now though. I've got a Palit 8800GT. I really don't want to spend more than about $200-250 was looking at a 260. Is that worth the upgrade? I mainly use it for HD playback through HDMI and I'm not heavy into gaming as much as I use to be but still play GTAIV and COD4 and will be playing COD6 next month. I've got a 24 inch monitor and would love to play as close to max as I can.

I've also being thinking about the HD5770 and eventually going crossfire there but I've always owned nVidia GPUs so I'm little hesitant to change but am open to it.

Thanks in advance.

make the switch from the card you have now to the gtx series of nVidia cards, or if you want to go with ATI the 4870 HD series is only like $170 at bestbuy and newegg its real cheap! you will DEF. see some better results

Sapphire 4890, with DisplayPort and HDMI - $201, $181 AR.

frankly nVidia doesn't really have any compelling alternatives i know of atm, i'd jump to ATI. expect about double the performance, or WAY better AA.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm leaning towards jumping to ATI and grabbing a 5770. How has ATI's driver support been latley? I've always heard that was the biggest knock against them but being basically an nVidia and Voodoo guy, I can't really say I have much experiance.

never had issues with them in windows. Linux, that's a different story, but in windows, i haven't had issues. then again, there are a few people who said that they have had really serious problems. your mileage may vary...

Do you prefer ati or nvidia? Id go with a 5850 or 275 for that price range.
